What exactly does a doula do?
Think of me as your pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood sidekick. I provide calm, practical guidance, evidence-based info, and reassurance so you feel confident and supported, no judgment, no pressure, just someone in your corner
-
Why might I hire a doula?
Having a doula means having a calm, experienced support person in your corner throughout pregnancy, birth, and those first early weeks. Research shows that continuous support like this can lead to better outcomes: people who hire a doula are more likely to have a positive birth experience, feel confident and informed, and even see reduced interventions such as unnecessary c-sections or synthetic pain relief.
Think of me as your advocate, coach, and cheerleader all in one. Someone whose focus is on making the journey smoother, more empowering, and genuinely supportive for you
-
When should I hire a doula?
The earlier, the better, most families book around the second trimester. But honestly, even last-minute hires work! I’ll jump in and make sure you feel supported, whenever you find me and if I have the capacity to do so
-
What kind of births do you support?
I support all kinds of births - medicated, cesarean, home, hospital. No judgement here! However you choose to welcome your baby is the right way for you, and I’m here to complement your choices and support you in whatever that looks like. Your birth, your baby, your experience, I’m here to make it feel a little easier, calmer, and fully supported.
Note: I don’t support free birth, not because I don’t respect a woman’s right to choose how she gives birth, but it’s just not my style. -
Will a doula replace my partner at birth?
Not at all! Your partner and I are a team. I work alongside them to provide support, guidance, and reassurance, making sure both of you feel confident and included throughout the birth. My role is to complement your partner’s support, not replace it, so we can navigate the experience together
-
Will you tell me what to do during birth?
Never. You’re the boss! My role is to give you information, tools, and encouragement so you can make choices that feel right for you
-
How do you work with doctors and midwives?
I work collaboratively with your whole medical team. With 14 years of nursing experience, I understand how the hospital system works and how important teamwork is for a smooth, positive birth experience. I’m not there to take over anyone’s role or create conflict, I don’t give medical advice (that’s their lane), and I’m a very non-confrontational presence.
My job is to support you, help you feel informed and heard, and make sure your preferences are communicated respectfully. I slot into the team to complement your care, not complicate it. Together, we all work toward the same goal: the best possible experience for you and your baby
-
How do I know you’re the right doula for me?
Choosing a doula is about connection. I will always have an initial chat (either over the phone or in person) so you can get a feel for how I work, my approach, and whether my style fits your needs. If you leave that conversation feeling comfortable and understood, we’re probably a good match!
-
If I’d like extra postpartum support, do I need to purchase the Restorative Package?
Not at all. You’re welcome to add additional postpartum visits without choosing the full Restorative Package. We can chat through what you’re hoping for and tailor the level of support during your connect call
-
Do you offer gift vouchers?
Yes! Gift vouchers make a wonderful, thoughtful gift for new parents. While baby showers are often filled with onesies and muslin wraps, vouchers for postpartum support or a maternity/newborn photography session are a meaningful way to celebrate and support a new mum. It’s the perfect way to give something truly useful and memorable during this special time
-
Where did you train as a doula?
I trained through the Doula Training Academy, a reputable and intensive program
-
Do you offer birth photography as well as doula support?
Yes! I can absolutely bring my camera to your birth. Because both roles require a lot of focus and presence, we’ll chat beforehand about what you’re hoping for so we can make sure your expectations match what’s realistic.
If you’re wanting full, professional birth photography, we’ll plan that together so you understand how I balance both roles.
If you’d simply like a few candid snaps to remember the moment, I’m always happy to take those, as long as it’s something you feel comfortable with. It’s all about what works best for you -
What’s your photography style?
I’m all about documentary-style, real-life moments. I capture the laughter, chaos, quiet glances, the stuff that actually tells your story, with a nostalgic, slightly film-inspired vibe
-
Do we have to pose?
Not really! I guide a little if needed, but mostly I let things happen naturally. The best moments are usually the unplanned ones
-
How long will our photo session take?
Typically 1–2 hours, depending on your family and the flow of the day. No rush, no fuss, we’ll go at a pace that works for you
-
When will we get our photos?
You’ll have your final edited images within 2–4 weeks, delivered via a private online gallery
-
What should we wear for our photo session?
Anything that makes you feel most comfortable. If you love floaty neutrals -beautiful. If you show up in leggings and a jumper because that’s real life - also beautiful. The aim is for you to feel relaxed and like yourself!
